Sensex Reclaims 74k Mark, Nifty Gains 99 Pts Led by Banking and IT Heavyweights

The Indian benchmark indices ended Wednesday's trading session on a positive note, resuming their upward momentum. The BSE Sensex closed higher by 332.63 points (or +0.45%) at 74,336.45, while the NSE Nifty 50 settled at 23,217.60, up 99.00 points (or +0.43%). Broad-based buying across major heavyweight sectors supported the intraday recovery after a volatile opening session.

Sectorally, IT, Financials, and Auto indices led the charge, while FMCG and Metals faced mild profit-booking. Key gainers for the session included ICICI Bank, Infosys, and Maruti Suzuki, whereas Tata Steel and Britannia were among the top laggards.

On the macroeconomic front, supportive global cues and a slight cooling of Brent crude prices to around $78 per barrel boosted domestic investor sentiment. While Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, robust domestic inflows from DIIs provided a solid cushion. The Indian Rupee remained stable, trading at 83.45 against the US dollar.
