Sensex Drops 307 Pts, Nifty Below 24,100 Amid Profit Booking in IT and FMCG

Indian equity benchmarks ended Monday's trading session on a weak note following broad-based profit booking in IT and FMCG heavyweights. The NSE Nifty 50 closed lower by 95.25 points or -0.39% at 24,080.40, while the BSE Sensex dropped 307.23 points or -0.40% to finish at 76,957.27.

Sectorally, Nifty IT, FMCG, and Metal indices led the decline, falling between 0.8% and 1.2%. On the flip side, Nifty Pharma and PSU Bank managed to stay resilient, providing localized support. Among top stock movers, Tata Motors, Sun Pharma, and SBI ended as key gainers, whereas Infosys, TCS, and ITC were top drags on the headline indices.

Macroeconomic headwinds added to the pressure, with Brent crude firming up near $82 per barrel and weak cues from European markets. Institutional activity remained mixed as Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net sellers in the cash segment, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) offered downside cushioning through selective stock picking.
